Women Who Lead: Honoring the Strength of Women in Early Childhood Education

March is Women’s History Month; a time to reflect on the resilience, leadership, and lasting influence of women across every sector. In Early Childhood Education, that influence is profound. Women make up the heart of classrooms, the steady leadership of childcare centers, and the strategic vision behind thriving programs.

At Theoria Technical College, we recognize that when women in ECE grow professionally, entire communities benefit. Children thrive. Families feel supported. Programs become stronger. And future leaders emerge.

The Backbone of Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education field is largely powered by women; teachers who nurture development, directors who uphold compliance and quality, and administrators who guide teams with clarity and compassion.

Yet too often, the leadership these women demonstrate daily goes unrecognized.

  • Managing classrooms with patience and precision

  • Communicating with families during sensitive moments

  • Navigating licensing requirements and staffing challenges

  • Mentoring new educators entering the field

This is leadership.

And leadership deserves investment, education, and professional advancement.

From Classroom to Leadership

For many women in ECE, leadership doesn’t begin with a title; it begins with responsibility. It begins with stepping up when something needs to be done, advocating for children, or mentoring a colleague.

Education strengthens that natural leadership. Degree programs, structured learning, and professional development help educators move from intuitive leadership to strategic leadership.

It builds:

  • Confidence in decision-making

  • Clarity in communication

  • Understanding of ethics and compliance

  • Long-term career stability

At Theoria, we see students not just as learners, but as future directors, program owners, mentors, and industry advocates.

Faculty Spotlight: Christine Collins

This Women’s History Month, we are proud to spotlight Christine Collins, a long-standing member of Theoria’s academic community.

Christine has taught with Theoria since 2017 and temporarily served as Chief Academic Officer during a critical transition period for the institution. Her leadership during that time reflected the calm strength and steady professionalism that defines effective women leaders in education.

Today, she continues to expand her impact. Christine recently opened her second childcare center, Scripps Exploring Academy, located in Menifee. Through this work, she demonstrates what professional growth looks like in action, combining classroom expertise, academic leadership, and entrepreneurial vision.

Her journey reflects what is possible when education, experience, and courage align.

“Leadership in early childhood education begins with believing that your growth matters. When we invest in ourselves professionally, we elevate not just our programs, but the children and families we serve.”

Christine’s story is a powerful reminder: advancement in this field is not accidental, it is intentional.

Encouraging the Next Generation of Women Leaders

To our students: your presence in the classroom today does not limit your future it prepares you for it.

You may be:

  • A teacher considering a director role

  • An assistant educator returning to school after years away

  • A future center owner who hasn’t yet spoken that dream aloud

Professional education creates pathways. It provides the structure, knowledge, and credibility to move forward with purpose.

Women’s History Month is not only about honoring those who came before us,

it is about empowering those who are rising now.

Reflection Prompts for Educators

As you move through March, consider:

  • In what ways am I already demonstrating leadership in my role?

  • What professional skills do I want to strengthen this year?

  • Where do I see myself in five years within the ECE field?

  • What support or education would help me get there?

Growth begins with awareness and continues with action.

Honoring Strength, Building Futures

Women in Early Childhood Education do more than teach. They build foundations academically, emotionally, and organizationally. They sustain programs. They mentor teams. They create environments where children feel safe and valued.

At Theoria Technical College, we are proud to support the professional advancement of women who are shaping the future of early learning.

This March, we celebrate the women who lead and those preparing to step into leadership next.

Your growth matters. Your leadership matters. And your future in this field is worth investing in.
